Fiber-reinforced polymer composites are structural materials made by combining high-performance fibers, such as glass fiber, carbon fiber or aramid fiber, with resin, metal or ceramic matrix materials.

Ceramic matrix composites use a ceramic matrix reinforced with ceramic fibers, carbon fibers, refractory-metal fibers, whiskers, platelets or particles. In specialized ceramic processing, ceramic powders, reinforcing materials and binders must be mixed uniformly before cold pressing, sintering or hot-press sintering.

Silicone-resin composites include optically transparent composites, porous materials, soft magnetic composites, coatings and adhesives, thermally or electrically conductive composites, high-temperature structural composites and specialized aerospace materials. Controlled high-viscosity mixing helps distribute fillers and reinforcing components more consistently throughout the matrix.
